Commercial Fencing in Maryland, Washington DC & Northern Virginia: Design, Permitting & Installation by Go Pro Construction

Commercial fencing is about much more than defining a property line. For businesses, religious facilities, schools, multifamily properties, offices, warehouses, embassies, and other commercial properties, the right fence can improve security, controlled access, privacy, safety, and the overall appearance of the property.

At Go Pro Construction, we provide commercial fencing as part of our design-build construction services throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. Rather than having a property owner coordinate separately with designers, permit offices, masons, metal fabricators, and installers, our team can coordinate the project from the initial concept through permitting and construction.

Commercial Fencing Designed Around the Property

Every commercial property has different requirements. Some properties need fencing primarily for security and access control, while others need a fence that complements the architecture and creates an attractive entrance without making the property feel closed off.

Go Pro Construction can design commercial fencing around the existing building, entrances, parking areas, sidewalks, landscaping, and other site conditions. Depending on the project, the design can incorporate metal fencing, masonry or brick columns, pedestrian gates, vehicle gates, privacy fencing, security fencing, and other features.

One example is a Go Pro Construction project in Silver Spring, Maryland involving approximately 125 linear feet of 5- to 6-foot-high black metal fencing, combined with red brick pillars approximately every 20 feet and three large non-automated gates.

The photographs and concept examples included with the project also show how black ornamental metal fencing can be combined with traditional brick pillars to create a more substantial architectural appearance instead of the look of a basic commercial fence.

Design and Permitting Under One Contractor

One of the challenges commercial property owners often face is figuring out what can actually be built and what documentation the local jurisdiction requires.

Go Pro Construction can coordinate the design and permitting process as part of the fencing project. For the Silver Spring project, our scope included preparing the design documents needed for permitting, including fence style, measurements, heights, and specifications, and obtaining the required county permits.

This design-build approach allows the project to move from concept to permit to construction under one team.

Metal Fencing, Brick Pillars and Custom Gates

Commercial fencing does not have to look industrial. For properties where appearance is important, combining ornamental black metal fencing with masonry can provide both security and architectural character.

Brick or masonry pillars can be incorporated at strategic locations along the fence line and around entrances. Gates can then be designed around pedestrian entrances, parking areas, driveways, or other controlled-access points.

For our Silver Spring project, Go Pro Construction’s contracted scope included the excavation and construction of new red brick pillars, installation of the black metal fencing, and installation of three non-automated gates measuring up to 101 inches wide.

This type of system can be particularly well suited for religious facilities, embassies, private schools, commercial buildings, office properties, and other facilities where both appearance and controlled access matter.

What Does a Commercial Fence Project Cost?

Commercial fencing prices can vary considerably because these projects are not priced only by linear foot. Fence height and material are important, but masonry work, custom gates, site conditions, excavation, design, permitting, and the number of entrances can substantially affect the overall project.

As a real-world example, Go Pro Construction’s Silver Spring project was contracted at $128,975 including labor and materials. The project included up to 125 linear feet of approximately 5- to 6-foot black metal fencing, brick pillars approximately every 20 feet, three non-automated gates up to 101 inches wide, design for permitting, and permit acquisition.

That figure should be viewed as an example of a substantial custom commercial fencing project—not a standard price for 125 feet of fencing. A simpler commercial fence without masonry pillars or multiple large gates could be significantly different, while a larger property, automated gates, additional masonry, access-control systems, or more extensive site work could increase the cost.

Commercial Fence Installation Is a Construction Project

A larger commercial fence can involve considerably more work than simply setting posts and installing fence panels. Depending on the design, Go Pro Construction can coordinate excavation, concrete and masonry work, brick pillars, metal fencing, custom gates, site preparation, design, permits, and final installation.

Project scheduling also depends on the complexity of the work and permitting. For reference, the Silver Spring project’s contract carried an approximate construction duration of 60 business days, with construction beginning after contract signing and permit approval requirements were satisfied.

Having these components coordinated by one contractor can be particularly valuable for commercial owners and facility managers who do not want to manage several different trades independently.

Commercial Fencing for Many Types of Properties

Go Pro Construction can work with commercial and institutional property owners on fencing solutions for office buildings, retail and commercial properties, warehouses, apartment and multifamily communities, houses of worship, schools and educational facilities, embassies and diplomatic properties, parking areas, and other secured facilities.

Projects can range from straightforward perimeter fencing to more architectural installations incorporating brick or masonry columns and multiple entry gates.

Why Work With Go Pro Construction?

The advantage of working with Go Pro Construction is that fencing can be approached as part of the entire property and construction process, rather than as an isolated fence installation.

Our team can coordinate the design, permitting, site preparation, masonry, fencing, gates, and related construction. And when a property needs additional improvements beyond the fence—such as concrete, structural work, renovations, additions, exterior improvements, or other construction—we have the ability to coordinate those services as well.

Go Pro Construction is licensed to perform construction services throughout the DMV, including Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. Our Maryland contract documentation identifies MHIC #130209 and DCRA #420317000171.
